Business: fire 48.5% of 2025 gross premium, marine cargo 32.6%, miscellaneous 11.7%, motor 5.9%, hull 1.3%
How it makes money. A Bangladeshi general insurer collects premium, cedes part of each risk to re-insurers (who pay a commission back), holds a reserve for the unexpired part of each policy, and pays claims, agent commission and management expenses from the rest. Crystal holds the unexpired-risk reserve 'at 40% of premium income of the year for fire, marine cargo, motor and miscellaneous insurance business and at 100% of premium income of the year for marine hull' [1 p.13]. Note 1.02 states that 'Premium income is the primary source of revenue for the company' [1 p.19]. Premium on public-sector business (PSB) 'is accounted for in the year in which the relevant statement is received from Shadharan Bima Corporation (SBC)' [1 p.22]. The five class revenue accounts add up to the underwriting profit; interest and other income less unallocated expenses give profit before tax [1 p.9].
